How better of a mom will Melinda Clarke be as Kelly Donovan than her “O.C.” alter ego Julie Cooper? Well it’s only a matter of time before we see Kelly’s maternal instincts with her hottie son Matt when she joins the “Vampire Diaries” (the show returns in March). And, Katerina Graham, who plays the bewitching Bonnie on The CW show, admits it’s nice to be reunited with TV’s number one bad girl.
“I was on the ’O.C.’ and I loved her on it,” Kat tells Hollywood Crush of Melinda’s stint as Zach Roerig’s sexpot mom on the show. “And I think she’s such a great actress and she’s so fun and a great addition to the cast.”

Prior to landing the role of Mystic Falls’ resident witch Bonnie, 20-year-old Katerina Graham already had a diverse background in entertainment, from being a Fanta girl to starring in 17 Again with Zac Efron. We recently talked to Katerina about her current favorite music artists and whether Bonnie will ever find a love interest.
Who do you hang out with most on set?
The girls…Nina, Sara and Candice. I love them so much. We go to the movies, maybe go out to eat.
The series has quickly developed a huge fanbase. Do you read anything about the show or the cast on fansites or gossip blogs?
All the time. I stay very connected to the fans and support their sites, blogs, art etc. I love getting all these beautiful letters from around the world.
Will Bonnie ever find a love interest? If you could choose, who would you like to see her with on the show?
I’m not sure if Bonnie will ever have a love interest. Bonnie’s focused on Bonnie right now and I like that. Not sure who I’d like to see her end up with that’s currently on the show.
How are you balancing your singing career with being a series regular on a TV show?
I’m focused on the show when I’m working on the show. When I do music it’s on my off time, when I’m not shooting and when I can dedicate myself to it.
How was shooting The Roommate with Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly? What’s your role in the movie?
I play the role of Kim. She’s he best friend of Minka Kelly. I loved working with Leighton and Aly [Michelka]. Both are artists/actresses so we all shared similar mentalities.
What music artists are you listening to right now?
Gaga, Gwen, Kylie, M.I.A., Janet and Robyn
Katerina Graham’s Bonnie began the season as Elena’s ditzy best friend on ‘Vampire Diaries.’ She soon was revealed to be a witch whose ancestor played a key role in Mystic Falls’ history. Graham has expertly transformed Bonnie from a carefree teen to a young woman who is embracing her powers. Graham warned that the cast members have no idea what is going to happen next on the wildly addictive serial. Instead, she discussed the cast’s close bond, the complicated vampire-witch relationship and why she is glad Bonnie does not have a boyfriend.
Last week’s episode ended with Bonnie being kidnapped by the new vampires in town. How is Bonnie going to get away from them?
I won’t say how or if, but I will say that she won’t be alone.
Why is Bonnie’s grandmother, Sheila (Jasmine Guy), so young?
A lot of people ask that. She’s a witch. She can make herself look younger. That’s why she looks so great.
Was Gina Torres’ character Bree, the witch that Damon killed, related to Bonnie?
Bonnie doesn’t know and I don’t know.
We haven’t seen Bonnie’s parents yet. Are they going to make an appearance?
I don’t know. Right now it’s known that I live with my father and my Mom’s not really around.
When Bonnie was haunted by Emily, how did you do all of those special effects?
We have a great stunts department. We have a great special effects crew. Whether it comes to fire or the floating feather trick, there’s such an intricate science behind all of those great scenes that you see. For the Emily stuff, we definitely had a safety meeting. When the amulet got thrown up there was somebody standing above me hidden by a tree with one of those specks of fire that looks like it’s rings of fire. They lit that pentagram around me. A lot of the stuff was actually done [live]. It wasn’t [put together] in post.

In stills Hollywood Crush hightlighted earlier this month, “Vampire Diaries” fans got a sneak peak of Elena (Nina Dobrev), Bonnie (Katerina Graham), Caroline (Candice Accola), Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) all decked out in the 1950s vintage garb, and star Katerina Graham revealed to us to that the episode will take some interesting turns.
“You’d be shocked who Elena goes to the dance with!” Kat teased to MTV News. “The costumes are really cute… I loved shooting 50′s stuff. We would do these takes and were jamming out to all the 50′s hits and stuff like that, and it was just a blast — when we were doing our hair and makeup in the trailers they were blasting this 50′s music.”
Kat explains that the decade theme will play a pivotal role for the ladies in the episode, noting that they are “traveling back in time” (for the school dance) with purpose. “That episode has a lot to do about strength and finding your voice as a women, and I like that they paralleled that with the 50′s,” she said. “During that time a lot of that was going on, and I think it was just a brilliant script and brilliant episode to shoot.”
“It’s about finding your voice,” she continued. “You know Bonnie’s actually pretty bold in that episode and so is Elena and so is Caroline. I think for me, when I read the script, I noticed the parallels between the actual 50′s era versus kind of having that modern day strength of a woman.”
